Is this self-publishing or traditional publishing?
Neither, exactly. You pay for the production, which makes it closer to self-publishing. But we act as the publisher — our imprint, our ISBNs, our retail accounts — and we do the technical work, which makes it feel closer to being published. What separates us from most paid publishers is that we take no share of your sales.
Do you really take nothing from my sales?
Nothing. Amazon and IngramSpark pay us as the publisher of record; we hold that money in a separate client account and pass one hundred per cent of the net receipts to you every quarter, with a statement showing what sold and where. There is no commission, no handling charge and no administration percentage.
Who owns the copyright to my book?
You do, always. You grant us an exclusive licence to publish and distribute agreed editions for a fixed term, and copyright never leaves you. The cover artwork and interior design are assigned to you on final payment.
What happens if I want to leave?
Give us ninety days’ written notice and we withdraw the title from sale, hand over every print-ready and source file, reconcile and pay any outstanding sales income, and give you a written record of your ISBNs, metadata and sales history. You would need to republish under a new ISBN, and the existing Amazon listing with its reviews and ranking does not transfer.
Will you publish any manuscript?
No. Every manuscript goes through a paid readiness assessment and we decline the ones we cannot produce well. Our imprint goes on the spine, so the standard has to be real. We publish our acceptance rate annually.
Will my book be in bookshops?
It will be orderable by any bookshop in the UK, listed in Nielsen BookData, and available on Amazon and other online retailers worldwide. It will not be stocked on shelves. Bookshops stock returnable, warehoused titles from trade publishers, and no print-on-demand service can change that.
Do you offer editing or proofreading?
No, deliberately. Recommending you into an editing service we profit from would be a conflict of interest. If the assessment shows your manuscript needs editorial work we will name independent editors we rate, and we take no commission from any of them.
How long does it take?
Twelve to fourteen weeks from signed agreement to publication. Roughly half of that is you reading proofs and physical proof copies being printed and posted, so the calendar is longer than the work.
